Interview by Carol Wright | Photographer: Kristine Canterbury
We got to chat with actress Tara Moayedi about her role in Apple TV+’s new series Invasion and how she got prepared for the role of Sarah Malik.
What initially sparked your interest in acting?
I’ve always been very outgoing and love to chat with everyone. When I was in kindergarten, my teacher recommended to my parents the idea of getting me into acting. I signed with a talent agency and shortly after, my first TV/Film audition was for Invasion.
Tell our readers about Invasion. What can they expect from the series?
Invasion is very different from other typical alien sci-fi shows. The character-driven series follows an alien invasion through the eyes of five ordinary people across the globe as they struggle to make sense of the chaos unraveling around them. The storytelling approach is so unique where the series was filmed on location on multiple continents to show the authenticity of the characters and their storylines.
You play Sarah Malik in the series. Are you similar to your character in any way?
I found so many similarities between us. We are both full of energy, playful, curious, and old souls. Although, I am not as brave as Sarah.
Invasion focuses on an alien species threatening humanity, not something that we have to deal with on a daily basis luckily. What did you do to get into character and put yourself in Sarah’s shoes as she deals with this life-changing situation?
I was just 6 years old when I started filming Invasion. I had never watched an alien movie or series before, so I was trying to picture monsters and scary characters I used to see in kids’ animation or read in stories and imagined that those are attacking us. It was not easy at all.
Outside of acting, what are your other creative outlets?
I have a Youtube Channel, where I educate kids by reading books to them. My official website includes travel blog posts I share from my travel experiences around the world. I love fashion and design and sell my exclusive kids clothing collection, “Belle Etoile”. I am also active on social media, especially Instagram.
What advice do you have for aspiring actors?
Casting directors are always looking for new talent and new faces for their projects. If you know you have talent and the passion and determination for the entertainment industry, you will have a chance. Dream big and believe in yourself and you will be successful!
