“just this one time” by indie-pop/alternative freshman Barbara Teresa is a bittersweet and nostalgic narration of a short-lived fling.  Produced by Danny Balentine and written by the artist herself, the track showcases Barbara Teresa’s fateful heartache through poetic lyrics and sweet acoustic sounds.

The unfeigned song is a confessional, where she exposes her true emotions and intentions to a friend and one-time engagement who  doesn’t share the same feelings as her. She ultimately makes peace with the fact that she’d rather have this person one night than never,  regardless of the hurt that it may cause her.

Barbara Teresa embarked on a gap year in the fall of 2020, and has dedicated the last nine months since to making music and discovering  herself as an artist. Sonically, the Caracas-born, LA based artist is heavily influenced by Taylor Swift, Gracie Abrams, Lizzy McAlpine,  Phoebe Bridgers and Lorde. For this single, she found inspiration in Taylor Swift’s folklore, and Phoebe Bridgers’s and Lizzy McAlpine’s  discography.

Barbara Teresa’s words:

“This song has got to be one of my favorites I’ve ever written. It came to me in March one night when I couldn’t fall asleep. I ended up  turning a few words I came up with into a full first verse and chorus, and sat down the next day to finish the song and send it to Danny, the  producer I’ve been working with all year. I really hope people can see themselves in my lyrics.”

“Writing this track reminded me of why I fell in love with songwriting in the first place. There’s something really powerful about  storytelling through music, and this song made me remember that. In deciding whether or not to put it out, I struggled with the thought of  there being a chance that the person I wrote this song about speculating it’s about them, and the potential embarrassment that comes with

that… But I guess that being vulnerable and unafraid to put yourself out there is part of being an artist. At the end of the day, I speak my  truth through lyrics, and all I can hope for is that others find comfort in them.”
