When you arrived on the East Coast to attend Pace University and study musical theatre, were you very set on doing Broadway or plays? How excited would an 18-year-old you be to see how your career has unfolded today?

At 18, Broadway was the dream. I wanted to live in New York and do eight shows a week! But life had other plans, and I’m so glad it did. Theater will always have my heart. As for my younger self, she would be shocked and proud and probably cry happy tears.

Starting your own production company brings a lot of power and control back to you as a creative. Are there particular types of projects you focus on bringing to life through your company?

Yes— I’m really drawn to work that feels personal. Stories that make you feel seen while also entertaining you. Whether it’s a feature or a short-form series, I want my work to feel nostalgic, thought-provoking, and familiar.

You’ve tackled scripted TV, film, and reality television. Do you have a gut feeling you follow when you learn about a project and decide to audition or not?

Absolutely. I’m passionate about many different things and that comes through in my career. I have no issue jumping in and out of genres.

Tell our readers about the process of getting the role of Fleurette in Superman, which is original to this installment of the franchise. How did that all happen?

I auditioned—just like any other role. It came through the usual channels, and I was immediately intrigued by the character. There was little info on Fleurette at the time, so it required me to really play in my audition. I put everything I had into it, and a few weeks later I got the call. To be part of a universe this iconic—and to see your character grow within it—is something I’ll never forget.

As Fleurette is original to this franchise, what did you do to prepare and step into her shoes?

Without source material, it was a blank canvas! I thought a lot about what it means to be on the edge of power, especially in a world where so many people orbit around someone like Lex Luthor.

Fleurette is Lex Luthor’s ex-girlfriend in the film, which makes us assume that Luthor’s ire might not only be reserved for Superman. So much of the plot is under wraps, but what can you tell us about how Fleurette fits into the larger story?

Without spoiling anything, I can say that Fleurette’s presence is more than just decorative. She’s someone who carries the scars of their relationship. She represents what it costs to be in Lex’s world.

You’ve already reached huge milestones in your career, including winning an Emmy for Instant Dream Home on Netflix. What’s the next project you’d like to tackle?

I would love to do a rom-com—something smart and funny. Those films shaped so much of my love for performance growing up. I’m also continuing to develop/write original projects through my production company.

What advice do you have for aspiring actors?

The harder you work, the luckier you get!

Check out Superman when it soars into theaters on July 11th.
