We got to chat with up-and-coming singer Ladi Rosa about her song “Personal Space” and the bright future that lies ahead for female artists.

Have you always seen music as a way to express yourself?

Yes, I have always seen music as a way to express myself. In a way it allows me to express my feelings/emotions in that moment. It liberates the mind and the soul at the same time.

Tell us a bit about your single “Personal Space.” What story are you trying to tell through the song?

“Personal Space” is about this young lady and young man who are in the beginning stage of their relationship, which is also known as the “puppy love” phase. She really likes him and always wants to be with him and around him. At first, he is skeptical about her always being around because he is usually always around his guy friends but she just wants him to know that she does not need any personal space from him and wants to show him how much she enjoys his company.

Do you have a specific songwriting process?

The song writing process with my team is fun and mainly based on my emotions or how I’m feeling in the moment. I also love to write down on my notepad little ideas or things that have happened to me on my daily basis.

You aim to empower young women to embrace their own personal beauty through your music. As the industry becomes more progressive do you see mainstream music having a positive focus like this going forward?

Yes, I really do see a big change when it comes to this topic! We have artists such as Lizzo, SZA, H.E.R, and many more, who talk about embracing who you are no matter what race you are or your size. I honestly think that there is going to be a bright future for women in this industry.

As a Latin pop artist do you hope to be an inspiration to other women of color who would like to pursue careers in music?

I would love to be an inspiration to any women whether they are colored or not; my goal as a singer is to be able to relate to everyone in a community and share positivity through my music and in my daily life.

What advice do you have for aspiring singers?

Some advice I do have for aspiring singers is to be patient. Not everything is just going to change overnight, take your time and do things the right way and everything will fall into place. Commitment is key in this industry. Never give up on yourself if things don’t happen right away. Just stay focused and continue the fight.
