We got to chat with singer/songwriter Marlounsly about her song “I Am” and what advice she has for aspiring singers.
What initially sparked your interest in music?
I have been writing lyrics since a little kid. In the 4th grade, I did my first talent show! Growing up, my favorite artist was Mariah Carey.
Tell us a bit about āI Amā and what inspired the lyrics?
“I Am” is inspired by knowing your worth in a situation and stepping back. Sometimes hearing the words āI Amā is what equips us to be ready.
āI Amā is reminiscent of R&B classics. Who are some of your music influences?
Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, BeyoncƩ!
When it comes to your songwriting do you often pull from personal experiences?
Sometimes I do, or sometimes itās a place Iāve traveled to that can influence some new ideas.
You have opened up for acts like lla Mai, H.E.R and Summer Walker. Are you eager for the day when live music can start back up again?
Very, Iām more appreciative than ever and miss how fun that used to be. When the world aligns again, Iāll be putting on the best shows.
What advice do you have for aspiring singers?
Find your sound and never compare it to anyone elseās. Comparison robs happiness.
