We got to chat with singer Margø about her song “LOVELOST” and her creative outlets.

When did you realize you wanted to pursue music as a career?

When I was 13, I first picked up a guitar and learned how to play – and from there it’s sort of history. Throughout high school, I was heavily involved in music classes and participated in talent shows, but it wasn’t until I started university that I started joining local bands and found a real passion for writing my own music. From there, I decided to pursue a solo project so that I could create material that felt like it was a true representation of me – and I think from the second the first song was finished I knew I wanted to pursue this full-time. Creating my own music is magical, and I honestly think I’d regret it for the rest of my life if I didn’t give this a shot.

What is your song-writing process? What inspired the lyrics to “LOVELOST?”

The songwriting process for me is always different. For the most part melodies or ideas will pop into my head, and I’ll try to keep track of those ideas in my phone voice notes. I have so many voice notes of me humming ideas into my phone! From there I’ll build lyrics to fit the melodies – it’s sort of like a puzzle! “LOVELOST” is about finding self-love, realizing your inner strength, and never letting anyone determine your worth.

What inspired the sound of your new single “LOVELOST?”

The sound is meant to be powerful and loud to represent the transformation you undergo when finally removed from a toxic relationship. I’m a huge fan of music that inspires you to be bold, and I really tried to express that feeling in “LOVELOST”.

Where can our readers listen to “LOVELOST?”

“LOVELOST” is available on all streaming platforms!

What are your other creative outlets?

I love creative writing and poetry! I find poetry is a wonderful way to inspire ideas for lyric writing as well.

What advice do you have for aspiring singers?

Don’t ever give up! It’s so important to believe in yourself – and to never be afraid of putting yourself out there. The only way to get better is to keep learning and moving forward!
