We got to catch up with Caroline and talk about the DJ R3HAb remix of her song “I Still Remember.”
You live in Nashville which is such a big music city. Has it been inspiring to live there?
Living in Nashville has definitely become a source of inspiration for me. I’d say it’s the people here that inspire me the most. I grew up in a really small town, and I didn’t see a lot of people doing what they really wanted to do with their lives. One of the reasons I fell in love with this city at such a young age is, for the first time, I saw people pursuing their dreams to the fullest. Chasing wildly ambitious, crazy dreams is the normal here. I find myself continually inspired by how the residents of Nashville live their lives to the fullest.
Tell us about your song “I Still Remember.” What inspired the lyrics?
I wrote “I Still Remember” with some friends of mine back in November of 2018. We were all really young, and in talking about life and relationships, we kind of came to a conclusion that we needed to write about what it’s like to lose one of those first, serious relationships. I find that the lyrics kind of give off this sense of desperation and anxiety, but in a very lighthearted, youthful way. “I Still Remember” is about being unable to let someone go because you’re afraid you’ll never find someone again. I think it’s a really terrifying and prevalent feeling in relationships when you’re a teenager.
The song was remixed by DJ R3HAB. How did that collaboration come about? How did it feel to hear a new take on the song?
R3HAB has been one of my favorite DJs for quite some time. I knew from the beginning that I wanted someone to remix “I Still Remember,” so for the song to end up being remixed by him was a dream come true. I swear by the idea that he is a musical genius, and I immediately fell in love with his take on the song. He took it somewhere I never imagined it going, and I think it’s what makes the song so special!
Do you hope to collaborate with more singers and DJs on singles in the future?
Absolutely! I’m already planning collaborations, remixes, features, etc. I love working with other artists in any capacity, and I’m really excited to put more collaborations out in the near future.
Has quarantine given you a lot of time to work on new music?
Quarantine has definitely given me a lot of time to write new music. I’ve felt really inspired during this time, and I’ve written some songs I’m really proud of. With all that’s going on in the world, it’s been really important for me to have something to channel all of my feelings into, as well as create something beautiful out of it.
What are some big changes you’ve seen in the music industry as a result of COVID-19?
There have been so many changes to the music industry as a result of COVID-19. I’d have to say one of the biggest is the impact the virus has had on touring. So many people depend on touring, whether it be for income, album promotions, etc. The spring and summer months are the biggest seasons for concerts and festivals, and I know a lot of artists who have been hit really hard by shows being cancelled.
