We got to chat with up-and-coming actress Madison Skye who can be seen in the Ivy & Bean film series on Netflix. Skye talked to NYOTA about relating to her character Bean and her advice for aspiring young actors.
When did you get bit by the acting bug?
My older brothers got into acting before me, and I would ask when I could start acting. So my mom went into action and found an agent, and my first acting gig was the last Christmas Catalog for “Toys R Us.” I fell in love with everything on set, from costumes, hair, makeup, and of course, working with the directors. I had a blast, and everyone knew from that day that acting was my thing, lol!!
Bean has a very active imagination. Was it fun to play someone who is always making things up and creating her own worlds?
It was great playing Bean because when I was younger, I used my imagination. I would create my own stories and characters, and it was always so much fun!
Did you feel like you could relate to your character Bean?
I can relate to Bean because I am very adventurous and love to have fun. And I am a go-getter, so once I set my mind to do something, I get it done!
Ivy & Bean has a great cast of new and veteran actors. Did you learn a lot from your co-stars?
Yes, I learned a lot from my co-stars, like always being your true self, having fun, and having a gift is great because you get to share it with others.
Your next project is Best. Christmas. Ever. What can you tell our readers about that film?
Best Christmas is a great movie where my mom reunites with her past college friends, and they find out what has been going on in each other’s lives. I play a 10-year-old Harvard student, so a totally different character from Bean. So I am happy that viewers will get to see another side to my acting.
What advice do you have for aspiring young actors?
My advice for younger actors would be to be your true self and have fun. We were all given special talents and if acting is your gift, let’s all share our talents with the world!!
