Actress, dancer, and philanthropist Anna Marie Dobbins stars in Stalked By My Doctor: Patient’s Revenge. We chatted with her about the film and growing up as a dancer.
You started out as a dancer. Did you always think you would dance professionally or did it start out as a hobby?
Yes, I have always dreamed of becoming a professional dancer. My mother was a professional dancer and hearing her stories really inspired me.
What initially got you interested in acting?
I just remember around the age of 13 I asked my parents if I could try TV/ film acting. So they helped me find my first agent, booked a small commercial, and got the acting fever!
The plot for the movie Stalked By My Doctor: Patient’s Revenge is definitely unconventional. What attracted you to the role of Melissa?
I love her fearless attitude. She isn’t scared to take actions into her own hands and stand up for what she believes in.
What was your favorite scene in the movie to film?
Oh, that’s hard, but it would have to be the dancing scene. It was shot at Griffith Park at sunset. It was magical. I felt so honored to be able to bring my dancing background to a role like this.
Can you tell us about any new projects you have on the horizon?
I start shooting for a horror web series soon. I can’t release any names yet but stay tuned!
How did you get involved with Make A Wish? Tell us a bit about your work with them.
I heard about Make a Wish through working with them at my mother’s dance studio in Alabama. She would host events for the kids where they could come to take classes and masterclasses for free from the top choreographers in the industry. I have always had a passion for giving back and learned that from my parents. I also teach dance at an after-school program for underprivileged kids who otherwise couldn’t afford it. I love working with these kids of all ages. Everyone deserves a chance to train in what they love.
You also mentor dance students back home in Alabama. Is it rewarding to see your mentees learn a move or perform in a recital?
It’s so rewarding to see these kids achieve their dreams. We just had a student book the world tour of Kinky Boots. We love our students and being able to mentor them and help them along their journey, makes it all worthwhile.
What advice do you have for aspiring actors?
Don’t give up. If this is truly your passion, your time will come! There is no age limit or specific qualification you have to have to book that one job that can change your career, whether that be 10 years old or 40 years old. Keep going, keep pushing. It will be worth it to know you worked so hard and achieved something others believe was unachievable. Your time is coming!
