We got to chat with kidpreneur, fashion blogger, and podcast host Maya Glitters about using fashion to express herself and her podcast “The Maya Glitters Show.”

What motivated you to start your site and share your outfits online?

It all began when I joined an entrepreneurship class which was a 12-week course and they taught all the participants how to start their own businesses. At first, I ran my own accessories business where I sold boxes that contained everything you needed to create your own hair accessories. And that’s when it all began, that was when I became really interested in running my own business. Then, from there I launched my pom-pom accessories line called Maya Style. After I launched, I decided I wanted to explore other entrepreneurial routes and I read a lot of books and came across content. Essentially, you share information in your chosen niche and you monetize it via ads, brand sponsorships, and affiliate links. And the rest is history! I designed my blog using a website builder, set up my Instagram account, started taking photos, and got my foot in the fashion industry!

Do you see fashion and clothing as a way to express yourself?

Definitely! I love the way that every item of clothing tells its own story and I love that when you find an item of clothing you just adore, you mentally feel confident and you feel like you can conquer the world and achieve your dreams! I find it so fascinating that an item of clothing can do that for you. I love fashion and I’m constantly experimenting.

You have a podcast called “The Maya Glitters Show.” Do you have a favorite interview you’ve done through the podcast?

If I’m being honest there isn’t one person, in particular, I have enjoyed interviewing over the others. I really enjoy finding out about different people’s experiences and interviews are an amazing way to reach people on a personal level. I’m a firm believer that everyone has a story – it just needs to be told.

How do you go about choosing which trends to write about for your blog?

There are so many different ways I find trends for my blog! Sometimes I notice my friends all wearing a similar item of clothing/accessory. Whilst at other times I spot something that a lot of celebrities are wearing. But usually, when I find trends to put in my blog, I identify something only a couple of people are wearing before it truly “blows up”! However, the majority of the time I put together a look I love and create my own trends!

Who are some of your own fashion inspirations?

Marsai Martin, her style is always so fun, bright, and experimental! She’s such a girl boss and Skai Jackson, she is an absolute queen and her style is so unique!

What advice do you have for other kids who want to start their own business?

My biggest piece of advice would be to just start. So many people that ask me for tips are so nervous and apprehensive to start. But they just need to GO FOR IT! GET STARTED NOW OR ELSE YOU NEVER WILL!
